Aluminum Molybdenum master alloy AlMo5 to AlMo80, ingot / granule / custom forms. For grain refinement, recrystallization control, and aerospace titanium alloy melting. ISO 9001, ICP tested, COA per batch. Request a quote.
Product Overview
Aluminum Molybdenum master alloy is a pre‑alloyed additive designed to introduce molybdenum into aluminum and titanium melts with high recovery and low segregation. Pure molybdenum melts at approximately 2,623°C and cannot be added directly to aluminum or titanium baths. The Al‑Mo master alloy lowers the effective melting point, enabling controlled molybdenum addition and uniform distribution in the final alloy.
Available in ingot, broken pieces (lump), and granule forms to suit different charging methods and melt practices.
Grades and Chemical Composition
Molybdenum content is available from 5% to 80% Mo, with custom specifications on request. Typical grades are shown below (balance Al; impurity limits for reference):
Grade | Molybdenum (Mo) Content | Aluminum (Al) | Max Impurities |
Standard Al-Mo | Custom 5%–30% | Balance | ≤0.05% total |
Forms and Packaging
Ingot: 5–10 kg per piece, suitable for medium to large furnace charging
Broken pieces / Lump: 5-7CM, for precise weighing and rapid dissolution
Granule: Custom particle size ranges available on request
Standard packaging: 50 kg iron drum (pallet) . Custom packaging available.
Applications
1. Aluminum Alloy Melting — Grain Refinement and Second Phase Control
Molybdenum addition refines grain structure, controls second phase distribution, and improves recrystallization temperature, high-temperature strength, and corrosion resistance. Studies show that adding approximately 0.1% Mo can reduce as cast grain size to the 76 μm range. Mo containing 4000 series aluminum welding wire also improves tensile strength and hardness at the weld zone, with better weldability and corrosion resistance.
2. Titanium Alloy Melting — Aerospace Grade Addition
Al-Mo master alloy is a key melting additive for aerospace grade titanium alloys. Pre-alloyed Al-Mo avoids the burning loss of low melting aluminum and the segregation of high density molybdenum, producing titanium alloy ingots with uniform composition and structure. Mo containing titanium alloys are widely used in jet engine components, aerospace structural parts, and medical implants.
3. Superalloy and Refractory Metal Melting
Used as an additive in nickel based and cobalt based superalloys to introduce molybdenum.
4. R&D and Powder Metallurgy
Suitable for Al-Mo composite powders and new alloy development.
Quality Control
ISO 9001 certified quality management system
In-house ICP testing for precise control of Mo and impurities (Si, Fe, C, O)
COA test report provided for every shipment
Inspection for high-density inclusions and segregation to ensure dissolution performance and compositional uniformity
Compliance Note
Aluminum Molybdenum master alloy is not classified as a controlled rare earth item under China‘s dual-use export control list (molybdenum is not among the 12 medium and heavy rare earth elements listed in Announcement No. 18 of 2025). It can be exported under normal customs declaration. However, if the end user or end use involves aerospace, defense, or other sensitive sectors, we recommend confirming destination import compliance requirements and end-use documentation before shipment.
